Ditch & Switch Pt 2: bathroom

I think it’s a given that cleaning products designed for the bathroom are loaded with toxic ingredients. The ones you see most often on the labels are ammonia, bleach, phthalates, formaldehyde, and phosphoric acid. The issues these cause range from skin irritations, respiratory issues, hormone disruption, and even death if ingested. But even more so than the cleaning products are the products we’re using to wash away the day’s dirt and grime and bring our best, shiny self forward. What products are those? Our personal care products! Toothpaste, body wash, shampoo, deodorant…UGH! I feel these products are more threatening to our health than the stuff we’re using to clean our bathroom!

I won’t revisit my natural personal care DIY items in this issue. I’ve covered them before. You can read about it this article.

What fascinates me the most about these toxic chemicals is how they are allowed into our cleaners and into our home. So many of the ingredients in our products are banned in other countries. Knowing this makes me more diligent of what I allow into my home, and onto and into my body.

In this article, I’m sharing my top 3 Ditch & Switch DIY Products for the Bathroom:

Soft Scrub Cleanser

This Bathroom Cleanser is one I make on a regular basis and keep on hand. I’ve shared this potent little jar as a gift to some nay-sayers in my circle & turned them into believers! I use this cleanser for the sink, tub and tile. It breaks up the soap scum and grime. It’s so easy to make and costs about $2.40 to make. One recipe is enough for one cleaning of our bathroom. Way less spending, way less toxic!

Fizzing Toilet Bombs
Forget the chemicals of traditional cleansers and try these DIY Fizzing Toilet Bombs using Purify Refreshing Blend. Purify is so refreshing and has a clean aroma. The oils that make up this blend are Lemon, Siberian Fir, Citronella, Lime, Tea Tree, and Cilantro. These oils not only smell delicious but they each have chemical components that tackle different germs that breed in toilets.
No. 2 Spray
Commercialized air fresheners became popular in the 1940s. However, I honestly couldn’t tell you when No. 2 sprays (“Poo Pouri Spray”) made its debut. The first time I personally saw anything like this was in college at one of my professor’s houses. I was fascinated that something like that existed! And even more so that someone actually thought of creating such a spray! Nowadays, these commercial sprays are full of fake fragrances that are designed to mask odors. What I love about essential oils, they target the microorganisms that are the source of ordors. Here’s a great article highlighting the antimicrobial activity of some essential oils. One of the oils I love to use for this spray is Air-X. It’s a powerful cleansing blend of Litsea, Tangerine, Grapefruit, Frankincense, and Cardamom essential oils.
doTERRA Products for Your Bathroom:
I’ll mention again that On Guard Cleaner Concentrate is my FAVORITE for my DIY cleaning recipes. It’s effective, versatile, and budget-friendly. I’ll also highlight again the doTERRA abōde Line. It’s a natural line that includes cleaner concentrate, laundry pods, dishwashing liquid, and dishwasher pods. abōde also has accessories such as a scrubbler and microfiber cleaning towels.
